In this textual analysis i have decided to review the look of the magazine Kerrang, a rock/ indie/punk music magazine. On this particular magazine the large background medium close up picture of two male celebrities form the band Fall Out Boy, this is an obvious planned picture as the two males are both looking at the camera or have a eye line match with the photographer.
There is a usual styled title of the Kerrang magazine, The title is in a black and white layout with the word in the usual white colour separated by lines which appear to be broke by a loud sound of perhaps a sound from a guitar. this relates to the style and theme of the magazine as it is about music!
Kerrang magazine use a slogan or a tag line on the top right hand corner of the front cover in a yellow colour, "life is loud" this has been used to effect as it adds a certain feeling to the magazine and relates to the target audience, which would be all music listeners especially that who like the specific bands and theme that would be featured in the magazine.
The band featured in the background picture; Fall Out Boy have got a large title in a white coloured text going just over half way through the middle of the page, this adds an effect to the reader and not only gets your attention but also tells you the band that is 'hot' this week. The white coloured text also links or joins to the colour in the title.
In the bottom left hand side of the front cover they have given the reader of the magazine a overview about what they can expect to see in the magazine and also shows them the main point that will be included this is a really helpful section as i feel it can help the reader to decided whether they would like to buy it or not. They have used two pictures of male members of a famous band which can also make people want to buy it more as they prefer those members and would like to find out more about them, the front cover also uses a lot of intisive words such as "free" and "plus" these can persuade people to buy it for the extra things the magazine can offer; they have also used bright colours such as white and a light blue to draw attention to those specific words, this works well as there is a dark background.
finally, at the very bottom of the page they have used a yellow page banner with white text over the top to give information about what else they offer. I feel the use of colour has been used effectively as it is easy on the readers eye but also catches it this makes a good addition to the effect the magazine has on the reader as it is all about first impressions.
